What is "High Speed Machining or HSM"?

High Speed Machining is the next ultimate, big step in the further development of form grinding. Known from the mould manufacturing industry using machining centers this technology is now also infiltrating form grinding. Customary workpiece revolutions of 1-4 rpm's have been the maximum possible up to now. Depending on the form geometry HSM allows to grind at 5-120 rpm's. The cycle times are therefore drastically reduced by 3-10 times and this with the same or even better results then before.

HSM is a complete departure from ISO-programming. The HSM-function is still called by a main program, however, the interpolator of the control is then bypassed. The tool movement increments per time-unit are directly output to the axis-drives. This allows to completely design the entire gradingin-process with our know-how.

This is done externally generating HSM grinding program Data. The program data is optimized for shortest cycle times and with the smoothest possible acceleration profile to protect the machine and its components. Superior form accuracy's are achieved even at high rpm's because of the control integrated "Self Learning Function" which corrects the omnipresent axis following errors.
