Why should CNC Wheel Dressing be used?
It is used to make money. The CNC technology can dress a grinding wheel to produce the same finish as rotary form roll dressing (in some cases changing the grit of the grinding wheel is necessary). It costs more for hardware and there may be some penalty in operating time, but it provides flexibility and versatility that cannot be obtained by formed rolls. The ideal application for CNC dressing is the case where large numbers of different wheel forms are involved or precision material removal is required (such as CBN grinding wheels that have maximum removals are in the order of 50 millionth of an inch per pass).
