How should you size a router for "Dadoing"?

If you want to dado a 3/4" groove using a router, buy a 5/8" diameter bit and make 2 passes. The mistake people often make (and too often repeat) is buying the same size bit as the groove, not realizing that the tool dimension reduces with sharpening. Obviously this doesn't apply when using an Insert Knife Router.
