"Please Expand upon Profile Grinding with Dressable Diamond and CBN Wheels"
The use of diamond and cubic boron nitride (CBN) ultrahard abrasives enables machining time to be reduced in chip-forming cutting operations. Further savings can also be made. For example, the use of automatic handling systems can reduce workpiece changing times and optimisation of the dressing process can help to reduce machine downtime.
One way in which the machining operation can be optimised is to dress and profile the grinding wheel while it is on the grinding machine. Similarly, doing away with subsequent resharpening of the grinding wheels by using self-sharpening bond systems is also an important factor, resulting in further potential savings.Dressable diamond and cBN grinding wheels can be used economically for, amongst other things, profile grinding operations, if suitable and cost-effective techniques for preparing the grinding wheels are available. Alongside familiar dressing techniques, new conditioning processes, such as point crushing, can bring about considerable cost savings.
